Prescriptions
Repeat medications take 5 working days to process (please allow extra time over bank holidays)
- This may seem like a long time but please remember that our Medicines Management Team receive thousands of medication requests every week. Please also ensure that you have adequate supplies of medication to cover holiday periods.
- For safety reasons, we are not able to process medication requests urgently (with the exception of asthma inhalers, insulin, epilepsy medications and GTN).
- All other requests will be processed within 5 working days. This includes painkillers and anti-depressants. Please ensure you leave enough time for your request to be processed and consider ordering 7 days in advance. This is especially important around bank holidays.
Request your repeat prescription using the NHS App
The NHS App is a simple and secure way to order your repeat medication, at a time convenient to you, from either your phone, tablet or computer.
How to request medication not on your repeat prescription
Please complete our online form if you would like to request medication that has been issued within the last 3 months but is not on your repeat prescription.
Patients who would like to request repeat medication that was issued more than 3 months ago will need an appointment with a member of our clinical team before this can be actioned. Please request an appointment using eConsult.
How to request your repeat prescription if you do not have access to the internet
If you are unable to use the NHS App or access the internet, please submit your repeat prescription request through your nominated pharmacy.
Alternatively, prescription boxes are located in the reception area of both surgeries where you can post a written request.
Medication changes following a hospital admission or a visit to an outpatient clinic
If you have had a stay in hospital, you will have been discharged with 7 days of medication. We will contact you within this period to confirm that your medication list has been updated. If you have not heard from us after 7 days, please contact us using our secure online form.
We will be notified if you have had an outpatient appointment. As soon as we receive the clinic letter, we will process this within 14 days. If there are any changes to your medication, we will contact you to provide you with an update. If you have not heard from us after 6 weeks from the date of your outpatient appointment, please contact us using our secure online form.
Prescribing of Over The Counter Medicines
Your GP, nurse or pharmacist will not generally give you a prescription for over the counter medicines for a range of minor health concerns.
Instead, over the counter medicines are available to buy in a pharmacy or supermarket in your local community.
Repeat Dispensing
If you, or someone you care for, use the same medicines regularly, you may be able to benefit from repeat dispensing from your pharmacist. This means you won't have to visit the surgery every time you need more medicines.
